By James Omara in Lira
The Won-Nyaci of Lango and president of the Lango Cultural Foundation Yosam Odur Ebii is very disappointed with the political leaders in Lango sub region. He finds them ‘anti development’ and blaims them for a wrong trend in political behaviour.
Odur is disappointed because the Lira district local government is delaying to hand over the authority of cultural land to the cultural leaders under his leadership. He also bitter because the political leaders have failed to raise money to build his palace. Yet his is supposed to reside at the cultural palace in the cultural lands. He accused MP’s for failing to mobilize development and most of the time failing to attend the general Lango meeting.
Political culture
Won-Nyaci is also not happy with the trend of politics in Lango sub region most especially in Lira district which is full of hatred and segregation. This led to untimely death of the vice chairperson Tony Ogwang Adwari. Most of the councillors of the Uganda People’s Congress Party (UPC) did not attend him when he was at sick bed.
MP’s want apologies
Wakili Okello, the culture minister in the Lango cultural Foundation, when officiating at the meeting to organize the fund raising to by a van for the office of the youth in Lango Cultural Foundation, also blasted MP’s and district officials for keeping a distance. The attack on MPs did not go down well with most legislators in the region. Some are threatening to boycott the institution if they do not get an apology.

I Strongly disagree with the cultural foundation on the issue of collecting money from members of parliament and entire lango because of the following reasons
1 the people of lango never had their kingdom in the past but due to high rate”buyo ping” among some old clan leaders they came up with ”won nyaci ” of which was their during obotes government and won nyaci was appointed by the president not the clan leaders
2 ,I t was 1968 Leicester conference that led to the birth of the won nyaci which was to be a political leader not the king of lango
3 now the self styled or imposed leaders in lango should not give headlock to entire lango and MPs
last but not list the cultural foundation should immediately stopped” baro wii langi” because of collection which is to save the interest of some individuals

I agree with the previuos comment. We, the Langi are not Kingdom minded. We are Nilotics, not Bantus. Instead of giving comform to one family, the MPs should strive to bring development to the majority. They were elected by the people, not the cultural leaders. Can anyboby define to us all what the key role are of the Won-Nyaci? Who formulated those roles? If they got that from Dr. Obote long time ago, let it rest there. We must look ahead, not backwards.

What is the salary level of the Won-Nyaci? Can that be justified by his role in bringing development to the Langi? If not, then the position is irrelevant in today’s situation in Lango. Tell the Won-Nyaci to go home and dig well to feed others. We would appreciate more cassava or “kwon kal” on our plates.

Dear all the langi(those in Uganda and abroad),
I’m a young langi of 21 years old at university level.
I normally get puzzled and discouraged by the dubious comments made on the internet by our very own sons from lango sub region.
The comments clearly manifest how the langi are uncooperated, uncaring and unloving to their very own brothers and sisters.
Mind you,all these are sowing divionism amongst the youths and; to those ones who will live for more 30-40 years from now: Don’t be surprised to see a split in the present lango tribe.
Please “stop” a shaming us before other tribes in the internet. Lets be proud of ourselves and remain united.
Thanks.

I’ m too sorry to have read that Lango MPs want to boycott their own culture s when the minister who made aslip of tongue doesnot apologise in the media.
To be sincere the MPs,isn’t it aform of disowning your selves and denying yourself where you belong to, because of what some body
has said?
To be realistic, that is not what you people were elected for and why are you behaving like children.
Mind you, you are using those words on your electorates.
Please behave like mature people who have gone to parliament to represent not to gain alot of prestige and you must know that “the prestige is either newable or not come 2011″
Hopping to see you development inviews than wasting time.
Thanks.

DANSAN whatever level your are is non of our bussiness, but we always give our comment to improve on the situation in lango not ashaming lango has you mentioned. What you have written I personally termed it as gymnastic and fallacy. Let us always learn to tell our people the truth and be objective rather than subjective. I pray that you pick some sense from what I have put down. If you feel like any way understanding is not compulsary.

Anyway, its very bad to begin commenting
on what our friends have written spelling out their names at the begining as DENIS ANATI
did to his friend.
ANATI why do you begin attacking personality
when giving comments? It shows how misconcieved you are. Please deliver developmental facts than gaining very cheap popularity.
ANATI can you write constructive messages
using good English than using foolish words:
Note that NOT all langi are you and you are not the only lango who knows how to use the internet.
Please consider what you will write and evaluate
it not just to write as achild learning “reading and writing in a UPE class.
Be an organised person with aclear name “NOT ANATI” as you wrote.

I actually didn’t attack the personality as you wrote. I wanted to highlight her on things that she is not aware of. So for your case if English is your problem, MR Emmanuel: ”All speech written or spoken is a dead language until it finds a willing and prepared hearer ”. And remember Mr Emmanuel: silly things do cease to be silly, if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way.

Colonialism ruled through local leaders. In non-kingdom areas, they ruled through the chiefs they appointed. The chiefs did were not bad people and did some good work. In Lango at the head of the chiefs was the Rwot Adwong. In Acholi the position was occupied by the Laloyo. in Lango the Won Nyachi replaced the Rwot Adwong at independence. It is likely that the Won Nyachi was appointed by the district council and not the president. If you asked me the role of the Won Nyachi should be that of an elected leader who moblizers for development and modernization.
